GSSNE provides Troop Camp Training to prepare leaders to take their troops to a lodge, cabin, yurt or platform tent unit at one of our camps or any camp site of choice. The registration fee is $15.00 and an additional cash payment of $15.00 is due at the classroom session to cover food and supplies for the overnight weekend. The total cost for the course is $30.00.
The course consists of three parts:
- PRELIMINARIES: An online introduction to camping the Girl Scout way. A verification form at the end sends a record of the training to the council. Once registered for the course, you will be sent a link to the site. In addition, you will be asked to complete an Outdoor Skills Checklist so trainers can determine the skill level of the trainee group.
- CLASSROOM SESSION: A three-hour classroom session gives an introduction to our camp facilities and standards. Also at this session, the group is divided into patrols, just as a troop would be, and menu selections are made, shopping assignments are given, and program responsibilities assigned. Each participant brings and additional $15.00 in cash to the training and this becomes the kitty from which food, equipment and supplies are purchased.
- OVERNIGHT: A week-end overnight at a GSSNE camp completes the training. Participants arrive at 10:00 AM on Saturday and patrols prepare a lunch, dinner, and snack for the group. The next morning breakfast and lunch patrol responsibilities. The training ends at 1:00 PM. Trainings take place in lodge buildings in colder weather and platform tents or yurts in the warmer months.
Volunteers who sign up for the course must complete segments 2 & 3 with the same group and cannot transfer from one training group to another.
